Hey guys I was asked what plugs can be run in the '29-32 Chevys. My reply was AC C-86, 875, 865, Champion C-7, D-16, Autolite 386. I know that the Champion numbers may no longer be generally available. I have recently (past couple of years) purchased the AC C-86 and Autolite 386 plugs so they may still be available. Anyone have other numbers that can be run and are ~same heat range and length?

A past TA for a different year and a great friend of mine once told me concerning spark plugs that......if they will scr*w in they will work!

That may be true but for how long? and how well? It is sorta like your favorite brewski. Most are good but some just better and others nearly undrinkable.

Hum......I don't know.......I've never found a brewski that I couldn't drink yet. Blitz came close though, but the mutt was able to get it down. drink drink

I always thought that his theory about spark plugs was interesting. I should get a shirt made with a big spark plug logo and his statement underneath it. That would be a cool shirt! laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

....So, "A sparkplug by any name is just a sparkplug"? stressed how about heat ranges and reach differences? I also have had a problem finding a plug for the 28 that would screeew in, but those with the same reach and screeew in seem to work ok. Even Champions!

Beer is another story! I think the place and ocassion has a big effect on how good a beer tastes, but any that foam and pour will work in a bad situation!

Hey Mackus Wackus! If the spark plug will "screew" in it will work! Doesn't matter about the heat ranges and etc. because the plug will work.......that was his point, albeit jokingly. Now.....it may not work correctly but it will work. ha ha! laugh laugh laugh

Hey beer tastes good anywhere regardless of the occasion or the place. drink drink drink

JYD, as my Dad used to say, "It will get you home" when I asked if something would work, like he saved his old sparkplugs and breaker points, fan belts etc. lots of things will work on these old cars if it will screeew in, just wish the new cars were the same!

Heck, on the old cars you could even pour beer in the radiator to get you home if need be! ha ha! And, I have seen some really weird spark plugs on applications where they don't belong (including miss matched plugs too) and they worked! yipp  laugh laugh

AC 86 or C-86, Champion C-7 or D-16, Titan #2. Now for us Canadians my original Canadian issue of the owners manual states Metric 140 and I haven't been able to figure out what that means.
Happy restorations.

You would think metric 140 would be 14 mm. But since the plug holes in the head are 18 mm they might not stay in too good. Just found in the 29-42 parts book AC 86 listed for '32 and AC 87 listed for 29-31.

Well, it does happen and I have heard similar statements from various mechanics over the years. And, the way that the correct application spark plugs are being discontinued, that statement may have more truth to it than fiction in the near future. :( :( :( :(
