On my '31 1/2 ton I get some oil seeping down the outside of the draft tube. The twist-on filler cap has no gasket in it, nor does a parts engine I have. Is there supposed to be a gasket in there? Thanks--Dan

Yes, there should be a cork gasket under the cap.

Thanks, ChevyChip. I'll cut one out and secure it to the cap with a dab of silicone seal. Dan

Silicone seal had not yet been invented in 1931.

To be ALL original you gotta go kill a horse and cut off its' hoofs and boil it down in water until it is glue.

Actually it does not take glue to keep the gasket in place. The cork disc is large enough that the locking tabs on the cap retain it. To be completely correct it should have a tiny bow-tie stamped into the center of the cork gasket.
