Hi topdollardanb,

Are you the lucky fellow or not? The 1929 (I)(AC) could be equipped with disc, wood spoke or wire. The tire size was 20X4.50

If you have a set of wire wheels for your '29, by all means use them.

Reguardless of the wheel, they all used a hub-cap. The cap for the disc and wood were the same. The wire wheel had a different cap.

Yes, however none of them are interchangeable. The U (AD) used a 4.75X19 tire.

The '29 wire wheel looks like a Model A Ford wheel with a small hubcap. The '30 - '31 wire wheel takes a 6" cap.

And........the 1929 and 1930 disc wheels had a "hub" cover as well that we call a "Volcano". It goes around the lug nuts and it covers the hub area and is held on by the hub cap. laugh laugh laugh laugh

I would say that '29 wire or spoke are impossible and '30 are right in there with them. (Now watch someone advertise a set for sale, either year, complete with the special hubcaps and hardware). HA!

Actually, the 1930-31 wire wheels are common (even though the 1931 wire wheels are slightly different) since wire wheels were stock equipment on all 1930 models after April of 1930. Before that, wire wheels were standard equipment on the 1930 sport models and the special sedan only. On the accessory wood spoke wheels however, those are almost impossible to find.

The accessory 20" wire wheels for 1929 are very hard to come by as well, and those wheels fit 1929 only.  :( :( :(

jyd,

someday, I'd like to have a set of spokes just to have a different look from the discs...

I assume the wood-spoked are rare because they deteriorated faster than the metal?..

the rims are all metal, right?..so are there rims out there, if I were to make the wood components?..

As far a putting woods together for a 1929 you can use the 20" felloes from the wood wheels of earlier chev cars as long as the width matches the felloe of the disk wheel. Front wood wheel hubs are the same as 1928 wood wheels. The big problem is that the rear hubs required for 1929 wood wheels are specific to that year. I have one rear hub and have been looking for another to complete a set of 1929 woods. I might have to resort to having a duplicate machined. Also the front drums are the same as the 1928 wheels and I believe the filling station sells the drums for the rear.
