Sorry for the location of this message. I tried to leave it under The question section but it keeps telling me I don't have permission to leave questions.
Is it possible to do a search of the entire site, not just specific forums? Lets say I just wanted to see sage wisdom from JYD and wanted to search the entire site for any messages he left about any topic, is it possible? Without going through each forum one at a time?
Thanks Bill.
P.S.- My vote is for less forums and more searches.
P.S.S.- Sorry for using JYD as an example, guess I'm still ticked he didn't make it to the 40th Meet.
Confused but still sanding,
Brian

Ohhhhh... you dog!! :) That's one of the same things that has irked me about this forum too.... I want to search the whole bloody thing, not just one forum.... Well... I think that I can actually make that happen, but I'm a little nervous about the performance hit to the site. You know, maybe what I should do is install it and then let's just let it run for a week or so and see if we notice things slowing down any... I'm willing to try, but I know that it'll impact us as we get more and more members... But, hey! I'm willing to try anything once!! Sound okay?? NEW SUBJECT: If you want to see what the old JYD is up to, there's actually a way already installed!!! You'll love it.... just find any message that he has posted (thanks Skipper for letting us use you as an example) and then click on the little rolodex card which takes you to his profile... this is the trick... once you're on his profile page, click on the words at the top right of the page which say View Recent Posts and then it lists ALL messages by that dog!! er... by that member!! Isn't this cool? :p and you know the best part?? It works for ALL members, not just the JYD!!! ha ha ha sorry, but sometimes I crack myself up!! ENJOY!!!! :) :)

Sounds good Bill, give it a try and we'll see if it works.
You guys must be laughing yourselves silly...."What Meet?", "Desk???", Those are all classic. I suddenly have the alarming feeling I'm a 3rd grade substitute teacher for the mentally twisted class....
That's MR. Brian to you jokers! Now put the rubber bands away and take out your homework......

If you install the new "all forum search" will it be an additional search option on the forum list?

I have a request from a member that just registered. He wants to know how to run a listing of all persons registered. This could be useful but also has I dark side. I really don't need to be on any more e-mail Spam Lists. Herb

Hi Herb- I was also thinking that a master list of registered users might be helpful. I don't believe that there would be a problem with spam unless the user checked the direct email option accessible at the top of each user's post (also on the user profile). The possibility of spam (and viruses) exists now with that option checked. Is that what you are referring to, or are you thinking along another line? I am comfortable with the indirect email option, although I have no experience with it yet.

Hi Gordon, My concern is that every profile has an e-mail address registered whether displayed or not so if this capability were made available it would have to exclude the e-mail from the listing. Herb

Okay folks... this thread has taken a little bit of a change of course.... but I have information about the first part of it - The Search Feature. I have turned on the SEARCH ALL feature. You will find it on the usual search page. When you go to select a particular forum, you now also have the option to select Search All Open Forums. But!!!! As I warned you, there is definatly a performance hit!! I selected "1931" and it took about four minutes before it was done! So, if you really must use this, be patient!! :( You asked for it... you got it!! Your friendly bulletin board administrator,

Great! One last question, how do I search for the words paint plus preparation but not numbers? Is it like E-bay, paint +preparation -numbers? or is it paint and preparation not numbers?

Good question... actually I had to search to find the answer to your search question... and so on, and so on.... hey! Who's on First?!!!! :)
I think that these are the rules built in to our search feature:
Separate words with spaces, not commas. Use 'and' or '+' to make a word mandatory. Use 'not' or '-' to ignore messages with that word. Use 'or' to make a word optional.

Hey fellows here is a tip for all of you. Do the view most recent post to your own names then once you get to that page bookmark or save it to your favorites. Then when you want to see all the replies to your messages they will just be a click away instead of searching for them. :) Remember the computer is your friend.

I figured this would help Big Daddy Bill. After being a member of a couple forums I had to learn other shortcuts. Always nice to pass info on to others who might need it.
