Does anyone know a dependable supplier of clutch head screwdriver sets?

The Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon has them!

Any NAPO parts dealer can get you a set if they don't have them in stock.

...and the Chevys of the Fortys also sell them...

I went to qwestdex.com & found Mac Tools 206 Poplin Pl. Trenton oh (513)988-6645. I also noticed you have a Sears store. They may have them. Most of the major parts houses should have them or have acces to them overnight like Carquest, Napa, etc

I've tried Sears and the local auto parts stores (large and small). They don't even know what a clutch head screwdriver is.

Jim Carter's Classic Truck Parts sells them, too. I just bought a set of three different sizes needed for the various sized screws on my '46 pick-up. I'd also like to find a set of 1/2" or 3/8" drive clutch head drivers to use on my ratchet, but I haven't been able to find them. I was told to try a trailer / mobile home sales place, as they're put together with clutch head screws. Haven't had a chance to try them yet, though.

Garbo. If you look at the end of the screwdriver, i kind of looks like a "8"

actually they look more like a bowtie than an 8. If you have a good cordless drill driver it makes a great tool to use with the clutch head bits. Make the the clutch setting on the drill driver light enought that the clutch slips. This will give you about the same effect as an impact wrench and the screws come loose without tearing up the heads.

I don't know if your 39 has any clutch screws but the 49 thru 54 cars and maybe much later have clutch head screws, also the 55 -59 chevy trucks have them in the cab, on doors and window hardware, yes they look like a bowtie, but not the so called "bowtie" Chevrolet emblem. I have had really good luck with removeing them with the proper size clutchhead driver, clean the screw head with a pointed awl, pocketknife etc. and insert the driver, and hammer it a couple of times and twist, hammer and twist.

Don't recall seeing any on my '39 . believe that they may have starting using some in 1940 or 1941.......Both my 1950 and 1957 have a fair amount of them.

are all clutch head drivers (mentioned above) created equal?..is one vendor's set better than another?..

Naw.........you pretty much know if you have purchased stuff from them before. Ya!

Snap-On carries the bits for use with a ratchet, etc. Snap on numbers are:

TM-27= 5/32" head, 1/4" drive
TM-30= 1/4" head, 1/4" drive
TM-31= 7/32" head, 1/4" drive
F-30= 5/16" head, 3/8" drive
F-29= 3/8" head, 3/8" drive

Probably more that I don't have numbers for, but you can find 'em & buy 'em online at the Snap-On web site. Google for "Snap-On to get their web site.
