I purchased a '53 starter and solenoid from Chevs of the 40's for $166. What they shipped was missing the plunger and link to make it function. The starter wouldn't fit into the Chevrolet bell housing. (I tested it on several 37 - 54 bell housings.)
When looking for parts, a local vendor pointed out that the starter fit a GMC. I explained this to Chevs of the 40's. They refused to correct their error. When I ruturned for refund, I was charged shipping both ways, a core charge, and a restocking fee. They told me I should have made it fit.
I would NOT recommend them.

I really dislike Chev's of 40s arrogance. I will never deal with them if there is an alternative.

I find Chev's of the 40's very helpful. They have gone out of their way to fill my many requests. There have been times when there has been a shortage or wrong part and they have stood behind their orders 100%. The Filling Station has been very helpful also. :)

Is there some Avenue for technical info using Por 15 to coat inside doors and rear quarters? Specifically there is asphalt based sound deadener peeling on the edges and well adhered away from the edges. I scraped a little from the well stuck felt and there were still sign of rust in small amount. No scale. Working inside the door calls for using all the tricks available. My guess is soak with mineral spirits until it pulls off easily then clean with mineral spirits. THEN WHAT? Por15 instructions don't go into this territory. Would the Por15 Metal prep clean the asphalt and mineral spirit residue? BTW, I'm not Prenting the exterior so I can't dip it. Generally speaking, I'm really pleased at the lack of any scale rust inside the first door I've opened up. Also the question of sticking new deadened to the Por15. Thanks, Roger

Yes, mineral spirits work great. It is easiest with the door off and laying face down on saw horses. You can then pool the mineral spirits.A plastic putty knife and thick rags help.

In my case, after I removed all of the original material, I glass blasted the inside of the door to remove any rust and the blasting cleans the door as well. I then sprayed it with PPG Epoxy primer as it is waterproof.

New deadener will stick easily to the primer after a quick scuff. You can then lightly coat deep seam areas with a thick rust preventative spray so it can creep inside.

I don't think the new deadener will stick to Por15. It's a unique product. If you are experienced and have had good luck with it, go for it but research body/paint forums to see if deadener will stick to it.

Thanks, CTim. I posted here because I bought the Por15 at COTF. I imagined myself as starting a new thread. I'm thinking seriously about returning the Por15 and just using what I already have for over 50 years- Derusto fortified with Penetrol. I was just trying to branch out with the process in Hope's of improved outcome.
