Hi All,

I have a 1925 Chevrolet Touring that needs engine work. It makes a loud tapping noise in one of the cylinders closest to the firewall and these two spark plugs appear to have oil on them. It also has a burnt smell at this end of the block. I am assuming this is a piston problem that will require an engine rebuild. So, here are my questions:

1) Am I better off rebuilding the engine or trying to find another? What should I expect to pay for either of these options?

2) Does anyone know of a reputable mechanic in Northern California who could do this work?

Any ideas on either the diagnosis or the cure would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joel

Running a compression pressure test will help dertermine the root cause for a start. There are a lot of problems that cause noise and oil on plugs other than pistons. You could have more than one problem.

34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.
