Hello,
I have an after market steering column mount "Motometer" temp gauge, and was wondering if it would be alright to mount the sender unit into the thermostat housing on my '28 truck?
I know that the "correct" unit uses a special head bolt to take the temperature sensing bulb, but the gauge I have, just has a plain black face, the same as all the gauges on my dash panel.
I do have one "Motometer" with a gold coloured gauge face, with the Chev "Bowtie" on it,but it needs repairing, and I don't have the correct head bolt for the sender unit to screw into.
Any thoughts are most welcome,thanks.

I don't know of any problem mounting the sender to the thermo housing. Just be sure to mount the sender before the thermo. While your at it you might consider mounting the Chevy plate on the working guage, but that is up to you.
What are you going to do with the non-functional gauge?

hotroadster,
Thanks for your answer. The gauge that isn't working has been given to a collector friend. The "BowTie" dial face was going to be too hard to remove without damaging it.
