I have a chance to get a 1928 1 Ton Flat bed Truck. Engine and drive train if fully restored to mint condition. All body parts are present, but disassembled. Also, clear title. How much is it worth?

How much do you have, how much does it mean to you?

Good Questions. As always, I have less than I need (or want), and choosing what to get is always the hard part. Actually, I want a vintage truck for my raspberry farm. My intent is to use the truck to haul around the u-pickers. The fact is I don't know a lot about restoring vintage chevrolets. The cab on this one has to be fully assembled. No books, no manuals, just will be a big puzzle to put back together. I have explored **** Model A trucks and part, books and resources are a plenty. With this chance for the 1928, the guy wants me to make an offer and I don't have a clue what a reasonable offer would be.

Ok, I bought it today. Paid $1500. $400 for the frame and $1100 for the rest of the misc parts. Was it a good price?

I have a 1928 Capitol 1 ton truck and purchased a second truck (pretty bad shape) for parts. I paid $750 but had to go get it and take it apart myself. I think you did fine, expecially considering that the drive train is already overhauled. For perspective, an overhauled water pump for your engine costs $250. Good job! Maxie.

Maxie. Thanks! I'll be moving on to the inventory phase, and can use all the help I can get. Any advice on where to get a manual for this gem?

Try Gary Wallace or the Filling Station for manuals and parts. See the links in the Supplier forum.

Chipper and Chevrolet,
Thanks for the information and contacts. The help is greatly appreciated! This weekend I'll start the inventoring process and ID what's missing or beyond repair.

Sounds like you did OK. In this area, for that model, variable condition, 1-2K is about the going rate. The '27-'28 is a real classic, a great truck to restore. I can help you figure out the wood frame. I do not have a diagram, but do have a working knowledge of all of the wood parts, and will help if you need it. Bill/KCWood

Thanks KC_Wood! I may take you up on the offer. I think I am going to layout all the parts and photograph and number them. Some are very easy to ID, while others are unique. I have a lot of steel parts that I believe encase some of the wood pieces?!? In the long run, I may need to examine a final product and take good notes. But before I do that, I don't want to spoil the challenge!
