I have overhauled a second chevy four and transmission and am ready to swap them out for the ones currently in the truck. For those of you who have changed engines and transmissions, would it be better to drop the transmisison and then pull the engine (leaving the cross member in place) or remove and replace the engine/cross member/transmission as a unit. Not having done this before was wondreing the best approach. The truck body will remain in place on the frame.
Thanks,Maxie.

Maxie, I think it is much easier to remove and replace as a unit.

Maxie,
I agree with Cleon. You will need to remove the top, with shifter, of the transmission but it will permit the unit to slide in. It is very difficult to align the transmission, clutch and engine while trying to get the engine positioned.

How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
