I'm ready to put the head on my rebuilt Chevy Four and don't find any specs in the manual on how much to torque the head bolts. My common sense says around 60 lbs. Does anyone have any experience that would help? Thanks, Maxie.

I don't think you can find the torque info in the AA-AB repair manual. My be they don't have a torque wrench in 1928? Here can you see what the experts says :

Good news! I have just received a sample short and long head bolts for the 4-cylinder. Will be testing them in the next few days. If they pass the test they will be stocked by the Filling Station.

Will try to arrive at a recommended torque to be applied to the new bolts.

Put it in neutral and stand by.

Torque settings have nothing to do with one brand of car or another, they're all about the size of the diameter the bolt. I have seen a list of setting for all size bolts, but don't have a copy. Maybe a web search will find some info

The charts are for modern bolts not the old soft ones. I don't know for a fact but it sure seems like those old bolts are softer than todays grade 2 bolts. Then there is the metalurgy of the blocks and number of threads that also impact the torque that can be applied.

Thanks one and all! I didn't know there was so much to consider. Really appreciate the education and history. I will pass it on to my engine rebuilder.

Went on a 70 mile tour to an old western town in Kansas called Pretty Prarie, to eat a good home cooked meal yesterday. It was at a family run restruant serving salisbury steak covered with brown mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, vegies and a hot roll with iced tea. Cost was $7.00. It was a good day at the Closson's. Thanks again, MAxie.

Still waiting... Beginning to think these bolts are vaporware. The filling station has listed them in their online catalog for two years now...
