G'day, is there a particular order in which to remove the head bolts? is it the reverse of the installation order? Does anyone have a diagram? Cheers Jimmy

Start with the ends and work to the middle. Also stagger from side to side.

Funny, I was always taught that you start from the middle and work outwards. This is the opposite. This is the loosening sequence, or am I wrong?

I was always taught that in tightening you started from the middle and worked your way out. In removing you started from the outside and worked your way in.

I have follow the diagram om several 4 cyl engines, and have not have any truble with the head / gasket. Remove the bolts, I have reverse the installation order. On 6 cyl Chevrolet Repair manual they say from the middle and out. I have also used this diagram on several 6 cyl engines, and no truble. I agreed . From the middle and out sounds more correct. So ,I don't know. I think from the middle and out also will work on a 4 cyl engines. Your choice :) Regards Arvid

He Jim, Good buy, looks like it needs mayor work, but you'll get her back together. I'm just glad I wasn't there; I might have bought them all. I have this weakness for rust, wooden wheels and stove bolts. Why is it that furniture only gets more expensive in time and cars and trucks get cheaper? They put a bigger mark on people than any Louise VI chair I have ever seen. (Pardon My French, Dutch guy typing here) This weekend I was at a farm auction and found a complete '52 Chevrolet, I set my max at $100 Canadian, just to save the poor car. It went for $200 Canadian, only one other bidder, but passing my max with 100 % I had to let go. For a view of the car, look here . The wood under the engine is a stupid mishap, in the seventies the owner’s son wanted to lower the whole car and heated the springs, while it was still standing on its wheels. Oops! Then the grader guy wouldn’t let him drive it anymore over the gravel roads around here, job protection. Old running trucks go for $200-$700, not running trucks for parts $2- $150, rural life in Canada is great now I just need a bit bigger wallet. Great buy; please keep us posted about any progress Regards Richard

G'day Riichard, that's good! when I modify it for hillclimbs I won't get strips torn off me for wrecking an 100% original Originally posted by Truck'26: This weekend I was at a farm auction and found a complete '52 Chevrolet, I set my max at $100 Canadian, just to save the poor car. That thing would get at least $1500 around here, she looks pretty solid. Yes - the clover leaf with the letters SPC inside is the casting mark of General Motors owned Saginaw Products Commpany. The machine work was done at the Saginaw Motor Plant. Chevrolet only used this GM's Saginaw 3 exhaust port heads on its 1922 FB and T models with other GM divisions using this 3 port head earlier from 1920. Did you find the cast date? KenK

Thanks for that info Ken :) It has 5-9-21 cast into it. So 9th May 1921 (I still wonder why the US puts the month first  ) Cheers Jimmy
