I am just curious as to how much it typically caosts to redo an engine. Mine is running fine, I am just thinking of the future.

If you do it yourself it might only cost a few hundred to replace worn parts. If you hire it done then $ 3-5 K.

If your engine is running fine, I advise you to leave it alone. And, there's a lot of difference between a complete rebuild and an overhaul.. If you're interested in the general condition of your engine, drop the pan and check the connecting rod babbit and adjustment. If that looks good, probably the the engine is OK. Clean and check the goop in the pan, if any, and that will tell you more..After all, you're not using the car as a daily driver like some of us did when we were young...Back then, the first thing we did with a $50 Chev was to drop the pan and find out if we could depend on it to get to work.

Just had a 1935 6 cylinder engine done; a complete overhaul new everything, including pistons, pins, rods, mains, valves, lifters, timing gears, hardened valve seats and oil-lite guides, new gaskets, new clutch disc, throwout bearing, pilot bearing and flywheel refaced: for a total of $1950.00 including deck refaced on block & head, block rebored, and align-bored mains. Work done by Docker Motor rebuilding Charlotte, Michigan.
34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

That sounds like a great price. I'd jump at it if I found it nearby.
How long did it take them?

Jim, I had three six cylinder engines done over the years. The last one 1/20/05 for the 53. I have a 3 yr warranty on the long block assembly. the Builder is Chuck's Engine Exchange, Inc. and he has been in business for years. His phone 734-354-0670, Plymouth, MI. I know he does guite a few older engines along with late stuff. Usually has the engine done within a month. Total cost $2,000 The rods were converted to inserts.
