Hi,

Is the Fisher tag on the lower right (passenger) cowl?

What is the basis of saying Fisher built it?

I saw the truck in person at a AACA tour in Galveston, TX. The truck was built from a '28 sedan apparently in the early 30s. It is really an interesting truck. I know of no information that indicates that Fisher built any truck bodies other than the Sedan Deliveries.

I'm agree with Chipper Dipper. As soon as I read Jim T's posting I realized that his truck probably used to be a passenger car at one time since Fisher Body did not build truck bodies that I am aware of. :( :( :(

If the truck is made from a 1928 passenger car then it would be a National and not a Capitol. Would be interesting to check the lower right cowl for prior evidence of a Fisher tag.

Hello Jim,

Great looking truck. Sorry I thought it might be on the same order as mine but it appears not.

Jim I have a door pull from a General Store which reads BUTTERMAID BREAD. After seeing your truck I had to go look to see what it said!

In 1928, Chev sold a passenger chassis with (AB National) aluminum radiator shell (Pictured above).
The half ton chassis has steel 28 shell. GM did not offer bodies for this chassis.
The one ton 1927 & 28 LM, LO, & LP had 27 Capitol steel shell and used 27 Passenger cowl and doors with Landau windshield on cab and panel bodies. [Linked Image from home.znet.com]

The Job # 8160 indicates that the vehicle you have started out life as a Imperial Landau Sedan built by Fisher.

And...your Imperial Landau Sedan (later converted to a truck) was built in the St. Louis factory and it was the 8,248th Imperial Landau Sedan built in that factory. The Body By Fisher Tag (carriage tag) was originally on the lower passenger side of the cowl when the vehicle was an Imperial Landau Sedan. It was apparently moved to it's present location when the sedan was converted to a truck. Actually, it probably shouldn't even be there now since Fisher Body did not build trucks. From the information available it looks like the Imperial Landau Sedan was converted to a truck by the San Antonio Body Company.

That is one beautiful truck! laugh laugh laugh

Hi Ray, how do you suppose it got to be a truck. I love this truck but it a real mystery to me. We know it was a truck in nov.1936. This is from a history of it from the grandaughter of the last owner. She is a friend.John Qualia bought a "new" bakery truck from MR. Horace Owen. The Bill of sale says nov.30 1936 (we have that)but family stories has this truck in use before Sept. 1935....Jim

I don't have a problem with your truck. Obviously early in it's life someone wanted a truck and took the option of using a closed car for the conversion. I would suspect there was a problem with the car as a sedan and/or it was selected for this conversion.

It also appears that the people making the conversion was: (SABCO)(san antonio body co.)(san antonio)( texas)

The only thing I find wrong is the reuse of the Fisher Body Tag. That should have been left off.

I think you can safely call your truck a National rather than a Capitol.

Thanks guys. Now maybe Jim will believe that it was a later conversion by San Antonio Body Company. Because of the tags he believed that it was a Fisher Bodied truck. He did not believe what I told him in the past but now you have told him the same thing.

Cool! Glad that we were able to help out with identifying the fact that the truck used to be a sedan when it was born. I'm with Ray that the Fisher Body tag should have been left off instead of attached to the wood since the truck body was not made by Fisher Body but rather the San Antonio Body Company. laugh laugh laugh

Most likely it is the line to the fuel tank and is running an electric fuel pump. Looks like the connection is made at the bottom of the tank. We really need a better picture to make a firm decision.
