Just bought 4 used tires to go on my 21 Baby Grand. 32 x 4 1/2 They seem to fit loose with about 3/8 play all the way around. Every other demountable tire I have had to put on, I've had to wrestle with to get on. These "fell" on. Is there such a thing as a 22" rim? Is that what I have? I'm a little baffled, wanting to get a set of "shoes" on my car. The tires are made in England, but do have the sizing in inches. I inflated the tire and it stays on, just doesn't look right....

Looks like you might have the wrong size tires or wheels or both. According to my March 15th, 1921 FB parts book [and also my Sept. 1, 1920 FB pb) two wheels were available. U.S. wheels (ft pt # 43724, rear pt # 43667) and rims (pt # 44763] were 32"x 3 1/2" both front and rear. An (Export only) 815 x 105 MM wheel and rim was also available for right drive models. My conversion makes them a nominal 32" X 4.1". My Sept 1. 1924 FB parts book shows both front and rear wheels and rims were also 32" x 3 1/2" with rims (44763)and black rear wheels (43667) the same part numbers. The brown rear wheels (pt # 24426) and front wheels (pt # 23759, pt # 23760) had different part numbers. From that I would conclude that tire and wheel size was not changed until the Superior model introduction in late 1922.

My ca 1919-21 (show single exhaust port head) FB & 490 sales booklets all show 33" x 4" tires for the FB. "Non-skid on rear. Plain tread on front".

Chipper, now I'm thoroughly confused! Your #s come out to a 25" rim, but my rim is a tad small at 23". I just read in small type on my tires,"for B.S. rim". The word BUTTRESS is on the tires. This is BS!!! LOL!!! If I were to put 25" tires on my car, I'ld have a couple inch gap around my rims. My wheels appear to be correct to the car, but who knows? Maybe someone did a swap years ago....

My '19 FB is 120 miles away so I can not measure the rims or check the tire size to be sure. My Chevy literature indicates that the '23-26 models used 23" wheels so the wheels might have been changed by a past owner.

My "19 FB Baby Grand" has 33 x 4 's. There is an article in the August issue of "Hemmings Classic Car" about a 1920 FB-50 Touring that includes a spec sheet calling for 33 x 4 tires on 25 x 4 wheels, both front and rear.
