while going through boxes of parts that came with my 1920 490 I came across what somewhat appears to be a valve cover??? while going through my parts manual ( combined parts list 490 1916-22 and superior models 1923-24) I did not see a photo of this. it is roughly 21 inches long at the top by 3 3/4 inches wide on the right hand side on the bottom it is 17 inches with a 4 inch angled side leaving 2 inches flat on the left side. on the top face there are two holes 9 1/4 inches apart set in 5 1/4 inches from right side and 6 3/8 inches from left. it also has a chevy bowtie embossed about 10 inches in from the left.
it is a few inches deep and the right hand side is slightly tapered and open with the left side being closed. it was painted black.
If I knew how to post photo I would ( was told before but to no avail ) if someone could help I will email photo to post here

Send me a photo by email. First guess, is that you have a portion of a hot air heater.

Sounds like a manifold heater to me.

Hi 38653,

You have mailed me a picture of your mystery item and it has arrived.

I was right on with my guess. 38653 has a very nice cover for the exhaust manifold that makes the hot air heater.

To use this item you need the special 1928 manifold and several pieces of sheet metal and tubing. Also the grill that is placed in the floorboard in front of the passenger.

I have one of these units NOS with box in my collection.

You can read about the heater in a CSN. Page 12 of the January 1928 CSN.

thanks for the answer.
I never thought of it as the hot air heater till after I first posted. then looked in my 28 CSN after your first response but the one shown is rectangular ( not exactly looking like mine)
