Well, I've finally gotten all the metalwork done for my '24 Superior touring and will getting the wood made soon. (I'm hiring it done since I don't have the tools or talent to do it correctly.) So... while I wait, I thought I'd attack some of the little jobs. I've accumulated some of the small pieces for the car but want to make sure they are correct before taking the time to restore them. Some I'm just not 100% sure. I'll post some pics and hopefully someone can let me know.

Here's a horn that was sold as correct for my 1924 Superior. Is it? It's about 7" long. The mounting holes line up fine. It's stamped REMY on the back cover. The handwritten tag reads: Will fit 1916-24 490-Superior. P/N 335817. (Don't know how accurate this is) The back cover presses on.

Tom,
It does look like what is pictured in my 1924 parts book for a 335817 horn, and lists for 490 +superior.
In my 1923 parts book there is a different horn pictured and labeled 335817 also. So I would say that the earlier original horns where different.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tom,

I have sent you a picture of the correct horn by email.

When I put on the Covered Bridge/Spruce Goose tour in Oregon, we had an Original 1924 touring model F show up. This one was straight from the barn and was operational. It came from Santa Rosa, CA. If interested I could put the two of you in touch.

Not too often that you get to see an unmolested car of any year and particularly an older one.

Thanks to both for the timely reply. I got the picture, Ray. Just wanted to make sure before I go to the trouble to paint it, etc. I mentioned in my email, though. I have a hole through the firewall to mount. Do I need the bracket? If not, what exactly is the proper mounting proceedure?

BTW: Forgot to mention. YES, Ray. I'd love to correspond with an owner of an original '24 F. That could prove to be a great help.

OK... a couple more pieces?
What do think of this ignition switch? The paper tag says it's right, but I was expecting the "two-earred" style more like a 490. This will do, but is it correct?

Hi Tom,

Your switch is exactly as pictured in the parts book.

Contact Walt Riedel, 541-535-3612, I have given this info without contacting Walt, however I'm sure he won't mind.

The horn has 6 bolts. The two top bolts and the two bottom bolts are longer than the two side bolts. The horn is placed in the hole from inside the car under the dash. Four nuts and washers are then installed on the engine side to hold the horn in place.

The battery hot wire is connected to the horn. The other terminal goes to the horn button which completes the circuit when connected to ground.
