On the 26 Chevy Landau Sedan we are currently restoring we have a round tail light. I have always considered it an "odd ball" tail light as what I think would be correct is a more oblong shape (with an upper lope and a lower lobe) designed to look like a two part tail light. I bead blasted the round tail light today and found that it is stamped CHEVROLET SUPERIOR. I also looked at a 1925 "parts vehicle" that we are using and discovered the same oddball round tail light. It is mounted in the center of the rear spare tire assembly bracket. I should also mention that the round tail light glass is clear (shaped like a deep but small jar) and there is a flexible/brittle red layer so that it will function as a red tail light and there is a "side window" that casts "clear"light over the rear license plate. Are these round tail light versions from an earlier Chevy?

What you are working on is the correct tail light for the 1925 and early 1926. The dual light is for the later Chevrolet and up through 1930. Your light should have a celluloid lens with the bowtie in the center. The clear unit you have functions as the lens for the license plate.

Thanks for the info. Any ideas as to a source for the red cellophane disk with the chevy bowtie?

Call 314 293-1991 and ask if his lens has the bowtie included or is it in addition to.

On the same or similar topic of "tail lights" I have come to the conclusion that most modern driver's think that I am waiving 'hello' when I use my left arm to manually signal a turn and so somewhat reluctantly I am planning to locate 'directional signal lights' on the 26. The cowl lights out front are the obvious location for front directionals. What about the rear? I am staying with 6 volt. Any great ideas on what style and location (over)(around) (under) the rear bumper...or somewhere left and right of the spare??? Good ideas cheerfully accepted.

Hi MikeyBoy, I just returned from the National 4-cylinder meet and what you say is very true on the hand signals. Electric signals are a step in the right direction. A small amber light mounted under the bumper ends work well. It can be seen from the rear and is not so noticeable on the car. If anyone is considering installing signals, at the time of replacement of the wiring harness, it can be included and really makes a nice package.

I recently was making a left turn into my driveway and used a hand signal. The woman following me thought it was an indication for her to pass on the left. Fortunately I made a quick stop but she clearly didn't know what the signal meant.

just about once a week, when I signal "right," someone will wave back... these are probably the same people that know how to use a double left-turn lane in the middle of the highway to get into the mcdonalds parking lot, but will refuse to use it on the way out...they'll wait and wait for both directions of traffic to clear, then gun it all they way out, turning left into the highway lane where I'll have to jam on the brakes to avoid certain death for us both... epi

When I'm driving a 6 volt car during daylight hours I usually use both the turn signals and the hand signals. I guess I'm hoping 'they' will see one or the other or both.
And if the 'dual signal' approach 'confuses' them, I guess I hope they'll slow down cuz they'll be thinging 'that idiot' doesn't know what he's doing!!!!!
Bill.
