Just need some advice on rebuilding my 26 motor. I bought the car with 7 spare motors and ive sent each block to the engineers 1 by 1 and every 1 of them was no good. The bloke reakons that it will cost $5-6000 aussie dollars to repair each block as they neeed to be bored and if he does bore it, the block would be to weak. He said that i would need to use sleeves in each cylinder and then bore the sleeves. Just need advice on the best way to go about rebuilding the motor. Should i continue looking for a motor that is still running?

Hi 26^chevy,

From your description it appears that the reason the blocks are "no good" is because they need to be bored out to an oversize? Out of 7 blocks I can't imagine all of them having been bored out previously. The 4-cylinder blocks can be bored out to the point where the bridge between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 is the limiting factor in most cases.

I would suggest you go to SCHOOL IS IN SESSION read about the building of that engine. It should help.

The cost of rebuilding a chev 4 motor in Australia is high, also finding a motor that has not had previous work done on it is rather hard to do. Most of the cars accumulated high milages before they were disposed of.
There are a number of engine reconditioners in the sydney basin and maybe you can find a more competitive price by going to another one. Wizard Smith has just had his 29 Oldsmobile motor reconditioned, he may suggest someone to go to see for a better price. Maybe some of the other sydney members might have some suggestions.
