Hello again from the "dipstick".
My 1928 exhaust arrived from the Filling Station today. I removed the old one and there appears to be a packing on the manifold. What do I use here or where can I purchase it?
Well I tried to install the new exhaust today. I had read somewhere on this board that most of these systems don't fit very well. This is one of those. The only way I can see this working is to take it to an exhaust shop and have it modified. It's so long the muffler hits the cross rods for the brakes and hits too many things to fit up to the muffler bracket. If it could get up to the bracket I think the tail pipe would hit the brake cross rods.
I bought some woodstove 1/4 inch gasket to try to use for packing. I couldn't get the pipe over it but so far it's the smallest I could find.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Just a follow up. I had to take the 28 to the local exhaust shop. For $85.00 They cut the pipe off between the air intake and the muffler and bent it in their machine. It fits fine now but they had no suggestion for the manifold to pipe gasket. When I worked in the motorpool one thing I learned was how to improvise. I purchased some muffler repair tape and Permatex exhaust sealer. I cut the muffler bandage into small strips and put three layers in the groves in the manifold. I then put a liberal amount of sealer over the tape. I then mounted the exhaust and let it sit for 24 hours. I'm happy to say that this works. The cars been driven several times now and there are no leaks. As a side note, called The Filling Station and told them about my fitment problems. They said they have never had a complaint about this exhaust. As someone else posted on this subject, I should have just taken it to the exhaust shop first.

Mike.. I looked at my 28' exhaust pipe and I don't think it has any packing I believe the exhaust is clamped to the manifold, by a P.O. and it looks like he took his system to a muffler shop and had it cut and welded too.

We all live and learn or just sit around and wonder.... "What do I do now?"..it sounds like you are a learner.

Just for the record there is no clamp at the junction of the header pipe and the exhaust manifold. The header is slipped over the exhaust manifold and is then held in place by the clamp around the MUFFLER.

OOOKKK, That explains why I could not find the clamp!...Since it isn't leaking I never looked very close, it is usually kinda hot when I look at that side.........

Has anyone tried the exhaust system from Gary. Does it have the same problems?
