My 6 volt battery isn't taking a charge. It sat for a few years in disuse. Are there reproduction batteries available for 1928 Chevrolet National? If so, where to purchase?

If there is a Farm and Fleet in your area of Ill. purchase a group 1 6 volt battery for about $30.00.....mine last for 6 or 7 years.

I see there is a F & F in Bloomington....and while your there purchase one of the big fat positive battery cables that they sell

I'm still wondering if there are replica batteries for this period (1928).

None of the "reproduction" batteries made for the early Chevrolets are technically correct and they do cost a lot of money as well. laugh laugh laugh

Nope! This is the battery that dudes are buying, but it is not the same as the original. Do a search on Chevy Chatter because there was a lot of input from different dudes about reproduction batteries about a year or so ago. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Prior to late 1932, the battery logo used was "Delco", not the Chevrolet bow tie. Do the search on Chevy Chatter and you will find all kinds of information on the reproduction batteries. laugh laugh laugh laugh

I went to the 28 battery subject referenced by BigBob. It says a Willard battery was commonly provided and Delco was definately not. Very interesting. I'll have to use the search function more often in the future. This has already been covered as pointed out above.

The metal u-shaped strap which cradles and supports the battery is failing on my 28 Coach. It looks like it would be easy to fabricate one. Would that be terribly sinful?

Not only is it not sinful, but is necessary to prevent the battery falling out and being run over. Not really, but you get the point.

Bigbob, The 1940 battery did not have yellow caps.(yellow caps first used in the '50's),lettering on the side not painted (case all black with raised letters-again paint began in the '50's),Had Chevrolet written above the Bow Tie and Delco below-all in the circle.

Thanks, Chevgene

So, like you have told me before, when in doubt, make it black!! dance I'd like to have a correct battery, but 300 bucks seems a little steep. :)
