I'm buying a '28 Chevrolet 2-door sedan with 4-cyl motor. No manuals come with it. What should I get and where can I get them?
Also, I'm sure I sound like a novice, but what does the common abreviation "NOS" stand for??
Nothing is ever simple.

28 manuals are common on Ebay.
Also, NOS means "New Old Stock"
An original old stock part from GM, that has never been used or installed.
NORS...."New Old Replacement Stock" Original old stock parts from aftermarket sources. Again, never used, or installed.

hi lryguy, welcome... reproduction owner's & shop manuals may also be purchased from the filling station & other vendors... if you haven't already, read through the relevant past discussions & postings in the various categories, including "vendors"... good luck, epi

Take care when people use NOS to describe parts. Many do not destinguish between original manufacure parts being NOS and replacement that should be NORS but all too often are claimed to be NOS. It is particularly mis-used on eBay.

NOS verses NORS as has been said already are commonly misused terms on ebay and with many vendors at swap meets. I have been especially cautious of "assuming" that a true NOS part is in beautiful original condition. There are a number of vendors on the internet who will sell a true NOS part that was made by Chevrolet and has never been on a car, however the part sat in a damp garage or outside and is in less than perfect condition. Get a picture of the part if at all possible. LryGuy: If you are not already a VCCA member...JOIN ! It's money well spent. I have met only the best and most honest car guys thru the club. You are dead on Toolman, LRVGUY, This is the place to be if you want the straight talk on old Chevrolets like your 1928, the guys here rarely have anything to gain except your friendship.
Be sure to join VCCA and a Region Club if possible.

Welcome to the wonderful world of old Chevys, one word of personal advice (IMHO), "don't tear the car completely apart" instead tackle one smaller job at a time. Don't make the task overwhelming. If you keep the car in running order so you can enjoy it while waiting to do some of the other items makes the process more enjoyable also.
Without a doubt you need the VCCA to keep you going.
