Trying to remove the flywheel from a 1928 Chevy 4 cylinder. Already pulled the tranny and clutch but can't figure out how to remove the flywheel. Don't see any bolts etc... all I see are what appear to be rivets (around the facing surface). Any ideas on how to remove this?

Hi fjleiter, The flywheel is attached to the crankshaft by 6 bolts located on the crank side of the flywheel. You should find a special sealing washer on each bolt that you must save for replacing the flywheel. Also, when you reinstall the flywheel it will go on 6 ways. If you don't know the secrets of the method of locating the flywheel to the crankshaft you should mark the two with a scribe mark to help in re assembly.

got it removed! Thanks for the help. Next problem... How do I remove the timing gear from the front of the crankshaft? Doesn't look like it's pressed on (no keyway that I can see...) Tried putting a puller on it but it didn't budge and I don't want to risk breaking anything so didn't try too hard. Any suggestions?

The gear should have two 3/8 - 16 threaded holes for use with a 4 slot plate type gear puller. The gear is a press fit with keyway. If it's been there 75 years, force ( and often-times heat ) is required. The bolts with the puller should be Class 8 or equiv. If especially stubborn a hydraulic press is also helpful. Herb
