Can anyone tell me where I can buy new tires for my '26 Chevy Superior. My car takes 29X4.40 straight side ballon tires. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi SSG26K,

What you list as the size you want checks out with the owners Manual and the Repair Manual, however they have changes the rules on you when you were not looking.

What you look for now is a 440/450-21 if you in fact have the balloon tires. If you still have the clincher rims then you will use the 30-3 1/2. The touring came standard with the 30-3 1/2. The optional tire (for an extra $25.00) was the 29X440, which is now referred to as the 440/450-21. Are you confused yet?

Tires are available in the size you need from several vendors. One of those is: COKER

Some tires do not fit well on the Chevy rims. We have found that Goodrich and Firestone are relatively easy to install. I am sure there are others that others have found to fit well. Also remember that the dot or mark on the side wall should line up with the valve stem.

Hi SSG26K,

Companies that would have supplied tires to Chevrolet in 1926 include Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, Goodrich Rubber Co, and Dunlop Tire and Rubber Corp.

To be politically correct your car would be equipped with 4 of any of the three brands listed and likely a bare rim on the spare tire carrier.
