The hubcaps screw off. If you don't have the Chevy hub wrench use a large crescent and be careful. They're made of soft aluminum and bend easily.

Better yet use a rubber strap wrench. It will not make marks and will fit any size or shapSparky

Hum? I thought all 1928 caps were brass and nickle plated. After market caps are normally aluminum either the straight bar type or the flying wheel variety. Where did I go wrong? Didn't we "cap" this one off in an earlier discussion?

Yeah, or use an original "Monkey wrench"
Ray, I guess I have the right one, I have an aluminum on one wheel, a brass one on one wheel, a nickle plated flying wheel one on the other wheel and an "aftermarket Almost bow tie" one on the other wheel! And they all do the job!
And the genuine Chevrolet used ,as good as new, wrench I got from Chevy Bill fits all of them!

The Superior and later US caps were plated brass. Canadian and possibly other countries used aluminum for '27 and '28, maybe earlier as well. The caps on my '19 FB are also aluminum. How many others???? Oh, yes the ones on the '20 Model T truck are.......Cast Iron!!!

Chevychip Any chance of getting a photo of the cast iron cap, as I have a cast iron cap in my collection and have wondered for over 20 years what it came off.
For what it's worth, aluminium hub caps for the 25/28 series are extremely rare in Aust. where I reckon 99.9% were brass
Also the caps on my original unrestored 28 2 door which came from St.Paul Min. were aluminium. The car was sold new in Min. and apperently spent all its life there. It now sports brass caps as the aluminium ones were pretty crap

Chris, Do you have the front that has internal threads like the other Chevy caps or the rear that bolts on with three bolts?

ChevyChip Sorry for 'long time no answer' I tried to email you direct through the column but it wouldn't let me. The one I have has the internal thread, but would still like to see a photo of both, if possible Chris
