My new to me 28 has an a non-standard coil. The installation does not appear to have a voltage drop resister. my question is until I can find a stock coil do I need to use a drop resister? If so p/n or resistance value, THANKS jwp.

Assuming you are still 6-volt I would suggest you purchase a 1954 6-volt coil along with the 1954 condenser and go with that combination in which case a resistor is not needed.

Are the points burning and turning blue? If not leave well enough alone. If they are, you need a resistor.
