Hi All

Looks like I will be ready to paint the body of my 1928 four door sedan around Thanksgiving. The car was built in April of 1928. It is completely disassembled. (body off, doors off, glass out, all trim removed, seats etc out, I mean everything) Chassis is completely redone.( in black) All wood in need of repair was done prior to disassembly ( so the fit would be right)

I want to verify the paint colors....

Fenders, runing board apron, radiator apron..black

Body, doors......Faunce Green

Trim, disk wheels....Dunsmuir Gray

Pin stripe.... Golden Yellow

Please let me know if this is NOT correct.

I will be painting it in lacquer just as the General did. And the shine will be as questionable as the General's was!!!!!
thanks
mromano

ps in doing the frame, after sandblasting, I found a couple markings. One was an "S" inside a circle, the other was an "I" inside a circle. Any ideas

The paint scheme document for the 28 I got from Oldie shows a black stripe under the yellow gold stripe on the beltline the width of the raized part of the beltline, seems about 3/4 inch, but, Check with him if you have a question he is Dick Oldenburg in Michagan.

Here's what is listed in the January 1928 issue of the Chevrolet Service News for the sedan.

Body = Faunce Green
Body Stripe = Golden Yellow
Body Moldings = Black
Hood = Faunce Green
Hood Stripe = Golden Yellow
Disc Wheels = Dunsmuir Gray
Disc Wheel Stripe = Black
Wood Wheels = Natural
Instrument Panel = Faunce Green with depression cut in Dunsmuir Gray
Garnish Moldings = Dunsmuir Gray
Window Offsets = Dunsmuir Grey
Door Opening Facings & Scuff Plates = Faunce Green

I also have a 1928 Striping guide that states that the fenders are Black and it also shows the correct width and placement of the various body/wheel striping. If your interested, send me a private email.

Hi Oldie

You have a private message.......and

just to be sure, what is meant by "Body moldings"

I assume the four fenders are Black, running board apron, running boards, headlight buckets and inner depressions of the headlight rims.

If you look at the cover of Nov 2003 issue of G&D the '27 disks, body strip/molding and window depressions are in red. I would think the '28 scheme would be the same only done in Dunsmuir Gray!!!!

When they did do the window depressions and the instrument panel depression, did they tape it? Is there an easier process? If they did not use clearcoat on top, you would feel the difference where the trim color is applied!
Anyone's help and input would be appreciated.

THanks again

mromano

Mike,

I responded to your private message. I can't respond to anything within the November 2003 G & D because I haven't received it yet, but the Striping guide I'm about to send you has drawings showing where the different colors are to be placed. I personnaly don't have enough technical knowledge about paint applications to advise anyone on proper methods or procedures. On my owm projects I just plod along making many mistakes as I go.

Mike, FYI The striping guide Dick is sending you has a ton of info in it, We lucked out having someone as knowledgable as a ,GM insider. Dick probably knows more about GM and Chevrolets than the rest of us put together. Another good source for information from a gentleman that don't blow his own horn is Walt Davenport.
