I will be puttng a small trunk on the rear rack of my 1928 tourer which will partly obscure the rear number plate. Does anyone have a photo of an alternative mounting place for the numberplate/brake light?
Thanks

Where are you fellows getting all the trunks to put on the back of your tourings? Any pictures available?

Yeah, where ARE you all getting these trunks? Does anyone like Oldie or some other 4 cylinder Guru have a drawing of an acceptable trunk for a 28? Tim give me a try, I think I can post them. mrmackc@msn.com

I think most people use old travelling trunks with the timber rails or even the all-metal trunks. I have seen "real" vintage car trunks on Ebay and at the local antique shop (for a price!). The latter always seem to require work to restore and don't look all that special when finished so folks I guess choose to restore a "prettier" timber trunk or whatever.
I am restoring a timber trunk with a metal outer shell and the original paper lining (although I might upholster the inside). The finished colour will match the car.

If you click on - www.antelecom.net/herb/herbc.htm I have a picture of my 28 with matching left and right tail light and license plate bracket. With wire wheels installed the center mounting will not work and this method allows turn signals and emergency flashers. I copied the bracket from Tom Meleo's 28 Roadster which also has wire wheels, but it may have originally been on a 28 pickup truck. E-mail me and I can make a sketch or photo of the bracket. Herb

Nice pictures of the '28 Roadster but it looks like one of those modified cars we read about.

Yes, very nice Roadster.
Tim gave me some close ups which woould be similar to what you have and I think I wil adapt the basic idea from these.

I can't see them in detail. Looks like they mount like the tail light bracket used on 1930 passenger cars with wire wheels. If so it could be an original Chevrolet part. Not the exact year but at least Chevrolet.

You are correct Jimo. Also judges won't give extra credit for the W-1 Carb, Model A pistons and rods ( 189 cu in ), Weber 3/4 cam, Wire wheels, 32 Headlights, Ignition key starter, Double mirror, Electric fuel pump, etc. The previous owner made most of these mods years before there was a VCCA so I consider them grandfathered in. I plan to keep it this way and may even add juice brakes as stops from 70 mph are somewhat dramatic. Herb

Herb I guess you have an original "HotRod", it should be a H@@T to drive!
I suppose you will go all the way and install 4 wheel power disc stoppers?

I think most people called it a "Shot Rod" back then Mack, but you can do miracles with 20 Grand and a roll of bailing wire. I think I will stick with pre 1949 6 lug drums so I don't have to change the wire wheels. That worked great on my 32 Roadster. Herb
