I am currently working on a ’26 Superior V with a 171 engine. I just got the engine back from having the short block rebuilt. Can anyone please tell me what to torque the head bolts to?

Whatever you do, DO NOT TORQUE TO FACTORY SPECS. If you do, you will almost certainly crack the block under the thread holes. A clean head, skimmed, clean block, also skimmed, good gasket and a light spray both sides with Hylomar and torque to 35-45 lbs.

The problem arises with an old block, rusted/corroded in the water galleries, combined with 70 year old cast iron. Things ain't what they used to be..........

Thank you. You may have just saved me a great deal of headachs.
