Question JYD is that not just an air cooled exhaust manifold, where is the fresh heated air exit to the cabin? I only saw a single in and a single out for exhaust gasses? Or is there a shroud that goes over this piece?
Or is it possible that the heat is supposed to radiate thru the firewall?

That one is not OEM. The first one that is OEM is the '28. I have one of those still in the box.

Even tho that one is aftermarket, and for the single exhaust, it is missing all the external shrouding and heat ducts.

The heat ducts route the heated air to a register, with Chevy bow tie in the middle, on the passenger side floor board. They work real well in the Texas summer. Haven't experienced one in the winter yet.

The heater that is shown is not complete and is missing the outer metal cover from which the hot air was ducted out the rear via a flex tube to the floor vent. The floor vent has a Chev bowtie cutout and the floor vent can be open and closed by pushing a little slide on the floor.
I have seen these heaters fitted to 1926 / 27 Chevs in America but have never seen any in Australia. I was able to purchase my example at the big auction up in Washington a few years ago.
As for OEM or After market I have no paper work to argue the fact. My question is why do you need a heater in a Chev 4?
My example makes a nice display item in the cabinet.

that looks like the heater on my 27 AA Capitol Coach. It is a factory option according to the sales brochure from 27, but as stated before it is missing the tin shrouding and duct and as far as how well it works , well when I was about 10 my dad and I were going to a show one cooll fall morning and I put my boot on the knob in the floor vent and melted a hole right through it.

Hi Scott 27-55,

Help us out there with your reference for the heater in '27. According to my publications it was not offered till Jan '28.

I have a Chevrolet sales brochure for the 27 year model on one side it shows the diffrent cars available as well as a description of color , pinstripe color and interior color.
On the back it shows the features of the car such as the transmission the wheels and it pictures the regular exhaust but tells of a optional manifold heater.

Hi Scott 27-55,

In the lower right hand corner on the back side of your brochure will be located a date code. Can you find that date and post it?

I have been using a manifold heater on my 28 roadster for years and it does a good job heating for the passengers feet If the temperature is not real cold it warms the car so you wont freeze, but like was mentioned it will melt the passengers shoes.

Its a beautiful world!. I can't imagine ever needing a heater in a 28'! We took our 28' out last night a couple of hours after sunset to let the kids see the Christmas lights in the neighbourhood and it really was almost too hot in the car, especially in the front. Daytime temperature was about 35C/95F.
Even mid winter when the temperature drops to 0C/32F for a couple of days, I would imagine that it would be reasonably comfortable with the side windows fitted.
Maybe John McFarlane from Canberra may have a different perspective than us desert dwellers!

I don't know about Canberra Tim but we have similar weather (3 hours away) and I find it hot enough up front. That's why my heater is connected to the rear section.
