First, I congratulate all of you who set this up. It's great. Next, I must admit I am a virgin-user of ChevyChat.

I just wrote a long entry and then couldn't figure out how to submit, so it's all gone....

After reading all your previous postings, I realize now how little I really know about the internal workings of the 4 cylinders. I am in the early stages of rebuilding my 1915 Baby Grand engine (meaning it's all apart!) and I best learn quickly! I will continue to check out the school when it's in session.

Early last year I began to assemble a roster of all the surviving H Models (1914-1916). I sent out many letters, e-mails, and phone calls. It was just a personal project, but I had the blessing of friends like, Pinky Randall, Wayne McKinley and advice and help from Ken Kaufman and Tom Meleo. I had the cooperation of many fine H Model owners. To my surprise and that of most of the "oldtimers", I can account for over 100 of these wonderful early Chevys. If you have one of these beauties and you haven't heard from me in the last couple of years, I sure would love to talk to you.

My main reason to join the Chat today was to learn more about the 4 cylinder tour next year in Santa Fe, NM. I enjoyed the article in the G&D last month about this year's tour and need to put some pressure on myself to get something ready for next summer. Can someone tell me the dates for Santa Fe?

I guess I'm not a virgin any longer!

Hi H Model Nut,

The dates are 23-27 June. If you plan on going you better be quick as the 50 car limit is filled quickly. Tom sends out the info about Jan and don't delay in making a decision.

There are 3 Baby Grands that I know of in Australia, one is in good original unretsored condtion and was imported from the US about 10 years ago. It now resideds in South Australia.
The other tow are in the same ownership and are gradually being restored to make one good one. They were very rouhg in condition and not very complete.
I should be able to track down all the relevant details if you require them, although I reckon Ken Kaufman knows more about these 3 cars than I do

Hi Chris
Yes - Bob Schuhkraft promised Tom and myself when we visited him in VIC 3 years ago that he would finish the restoration of his 1914 Royal Mail #2845 and have it at Goulburn. I sure hope he has this car registered for the Goulburn Rally since we are coming a long way just to see Bob's H2?

Yes, Ray has Bob's Royal Mail on his list along with his 16 Baby Grand chassis and 5 spare H engines.

Tom and I will be flying down to SA after Goulburn to visit Erik Parker's Chev Collection and his imported LHD 1914 Royal Mail [which is on Ray's list] and his recently imported 1918 Model D5.

Ray also has Brian Newberg from NZ recent imported 1914 Royal Mail and his well known RHD 1916 Baby Grand on his list too - with 3 more found in Europe.

It's amazing how many of these rare cars made it out out here (Aust), after reading your posting and talking to Dave Perry last night, it appears that there were possibly 15 or so Royal Mail/Baby Grands, it also appears that the majority were 1916. One of the cars Bob has was one I found many years ago, in fact I did have an option to buy it, however it was far too big a project than I could take on.

On a similar note, it's also amazing how many FB's and FA's have turned up out here, I'd say at least 10, and then there's the Littles. I wonder why so many of these low production models ended up here.

There should be someone in Australia keeping a record of all these cars. Maybe Dave perry could be the man if his arm was twisted.

I look forward to catching up with you and Tom in Goulburn and if there is anything that I can do to help make your visit more enjoyable, please don't hesitate to ask
