Awhile back there was alot of discussion about the pattern for a split cushion for the truckw with the gas tank in the cabs. Did some one ever come up with a pattern? I have found a shop in Seneca, ILL if a pattern is available. chevy

I took a set of seat springs to the following company for them to make patterns for the '31-2 trucks. They will make new seat springs as well as the wood parts that they fit on. In addition they have patterns from other Chevrolets and will duplicate any of the early springs. They are waiting for orders. Ask for Paul.

Chevy Chip: Do you know the approximate cost? Although I'm not working on my '31 at the moment, I might divert some working capital. My seat is wrong and really smashed down! flush

Sorry guys missed the post asking the price. I did not get a price from Paul as I didn't pickup my seat patterns. A friend did who picked up a set for his '31 5 passenger coupe. The six pieces were about $ 500 if I remember correctly. I should see Paul at the Pate Swap Meet in Ft. Worth, TX this week and if so will ask the price.

No problem ChevyChip, I thought maybe my question was out-of-line. I did try to call Paul a few days ago... he was out and I didn't get back to it yet.

Hi Grumpy,

I had Snyders ( www.snydersantiqueauto.com ) make seat springs for my 28 Roadster several years ago. I sent them a simple sketch ( including wire sizes ) and the results were excellent. They stock some 32-34 Chevy but most of their work is Model A. The catolog price for custom seats is $75 per cushion but mine came out less. They stock the wood parts for the A's but you would have to ask about custom making Chevy wood.

Hey Herb... I appreciate your advice and help, but I don't have ANYTHING to go on, only the knowledge that the seat bottom is two piece to accommodate the gas cap under the passenger seat. Strangely enough, Hampton Coach can make seat covers, but they have no idea what the frame of the seat should look like. Snyder's certainly has an attractive price though!

The truck has some kind of (smashed down) seat in it, and the previous owner also gave me another part of a seat frame that is one big piece... for several months I thought it was the bottom because the one that is in the truck is toast. For all I know, I might have two good frames for the seat backs. Maybe I should post a picture here and ask ChevyChip to identify it! If I really do have the back, then I'd only have to buy the bottoms.

Like ChevyChip says, he took his seat to Car Line Manufacturing & Distributing Inc, and they made patterns from his. This makes them a pretty attractive option.

Can anyone post a picture of what these seats are supposed to look like. I am sure the upper/back seat I have for my truck must be out of a car. It looks too fancy to be out of a truck. chevy

Hey ChevyChip!

I just called Car Line... I didn't get to talk with Paul directly, but the person answering the phone shuttled messages to him from me. Anyway, he said he doesn't have the patterns!

Can you help sort out the confusion?

Grumpy,
I did not get to talk to Paul at the Pate Swap Meet and just got back from the sixth Southern Spring Tour. I will try to get an update from Paul in the next few days.

Thanks ChevyChip, I appreciate your help. If you hadn't had patterns made, I'd really be up a creek. togo
