Anyone try this tip?

"A method of determining the speed of the engine when idling is to grasp one of the valve lifters between the the thumb and finger and count the number of times the valve lifts in twelve seconds. Multiply this number by 10 and the result is the number of revolutions the engine is turning over per minute."

Much better than my old method of grabbing the spark plug wire and counting the number of times I get shocked over 12 seconds. laugh laugh laugh

Yes, this sounds like a great poor man's way of figuring out the revs....

In 1950 I worked with a guy in a service station that just loved to share this information with any one walking by, he would just grab a spark plug wire grab you and let you count the rpm for him. No rubber boots then! talk

Don't be such a woossie. The ABSOLUTELY best way to determine rpm is to shove your arm into the radiator fan, count the number of seconds before you black out, then have someone else multiply that time by the time (in months) that it takes you to recover. I'm told it works all the time.

You guys have it all wrong! Absolutely....the very best way to figure the RPM is to have Elvira sit on the valve cover while the engine is running, and count the number of times her headlights bounce up and down in 12 seconds, multiply that by two and ya got it! That is....if you don't lose count in the meantime!!! Anyway, it is a lot more fun for all of those involved instead of the other methods!! laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Sure! Elvira would love it, and with 16 cylinders you have to multiply by 5 instead of by 2!   laugh laugh laugh
