nj Horst, the first # is the serial # of the engine, the T at the begining means that it is a truck motor. Not to sure about the #'s 6 10 8 the casting # usually has a letter A B C ect at the begining not a #. But it was cast on the 10th day of the month 1928, if the 6 is correct it was cast on June 10th 1928. In the fall of 28 Chevrolet took over the Saginaw Products Co. and renamed it the Chevrolet Gray Iron Foundry and introduced the first design of the Chevrolet bowtie in the casting. The 1928 castings had the bowtie. any information on the head?? this might help with the identification.

Sounds like it is a "G" and not a "6". If so, the engine was cast on July 10, 1928.

JYD, I think this is a good bet that it is a G and not a 6 that was the reason for my second question about the head casting # with that info provided in nj's second post the casting is also a G, this would also correspond to the addition of the Chevy bowtie in the casting in mid to late year 28.
