Hello All, I was just with some of the Board Members from the Long Island Region who are looking into hosting the 2003 Eastern VCCA Meet in August. They found a great place, but the cost per night is a little pricey. It is $155 per night. I know many of you will not attend this, but many of you travel to meets, Would this price scare you from going to a meet? They are afraid (and can't blame then) about getting locked into minimums that they can't hit. Even if you never plan on traveling east, but do attend VCCA Meets we are interested in your thoughts. A big problem we have here is living on the coast, so costs are always higher near the water Thanks John Mahoney

Before everyone gives an opinion on what they think of the price there is one thing that my father forgot to mention and that would be that the facility itself is worth what they are asking. It is situated in the "Gold Coast" of long island and is on a very big piece of land right next to the long island sound. It is very secure and has a large wall around the perimeter of the grounds, large open grass fields, tennis courts, and a bowling alley.and there are some really nice roads that are around the hotel that go along the coast for miles it seems like it could make a perfect area to host a meet out of.

Hi Guys, In my opinion, I don't feel that the $155 for the room is out of line for the area hosting the show. Granted, you have to also factor in the taxes which will be charged - so that room will most likely be closer to $175.00 I travel for a living - so I am used to the rates in the nine northeastern states. When attending a show in Baltimore two years ago (non VCCA) the Marriott was charging $149 for the room - and that was a three day event. The closer you get to NYC - the more the rooms will cost - but I think we accept that as a fact of life. Geez, I bet you could find a place for under a $100 a night - but I really don't think the members would appreciate "what goes on in places like that" I don't know if this really matters - but the Stamford, CT market is routinely in the $200-275 range - and that is just a hop across the Sound. I saw pictures of the location proposed by John - and I think it is FLAT OUT GORGEOUS! :) That's my two cents.....

Here in the mid-west where things are more reasonable people complain if its over $75.00.Most don't care as to how fancy it is just so it clean, comfortable and has big parking lot.I know things are different in the west and east ,This is just a comment as to how prices vary.

I'm not sure that it is a question of whether the hotel is worth it or not, but rather a question of affordability. Is this a 1 day meet (appox $175.00), 2 day meet (appox. $350.00), or a 3 day meet (approx. $525.00)? John, the meet in Pennington was one of the nicest meets that Cindy and I have ever attended. I was never really concerned about the safety of my car and the room rates were 1/2 the cost of the 2003 proposal. I commend you and your region for stepping up to the plate and hosting the meet. In all honesty, the $525.00 will go a long way in helping to pay the 2003 tuition for my daughter's education. I would probably pass on this event. John

John, the question reall was affordability. Being on the water trying to get a hotel here in the summer would be like trying to get one in Ski Area's in the winter. PEAK RATES APPLY!!!! I understand your concerns, but travel is not as bad as it seems coming from your direction. John

John, Two more things. I docomplain about the traffic, but that is because I am driving a big block 60 Impala in it, with out air. The traffic is really not that bad in a modern (pulling a trailer) Second thing it would be a two night stay but the numbers you come up with are if you are staying home. Even if you are going to pay $100 a night this is only $100 more for the weekend. $350 as opposed to $250, but most of the food is included. I do understand the tuition thing all too well, guess who VTJohn is? My son. Thanks for the input, and we would have loved to seen you come. I am planning a little cook out at my home on Thursday for all of the early arrivals. Either way with 20 or 100 people we still will have fun. John

John, Don't "rule me out" yet.....next August is a long way off. 2 nights is better than 3..... I just hope the dates don't interfere with other August plans.....what are the dates??? If most of the food is included....then, it might make the $$$$ issue less of a concern/problem. I knew right away who VTJohn was....I hope all is well for him at college! Hi VTJohn! You had said; "Would this price scare you from going to a meet".....just sharing my concerns. You are right either way, with 20 or 100 people you should still have fun..... that is what it is all about! By the way....made a mistake (now corrected) in the previous post....Cindy and I had a great time in Pennington! John

Hello John and John and John and all the rest. Yes I would most definately consider an August meet in the Glen Cove area. It has been many years since I have been there and I remember it as quite nice. Since I am only about 60 miles from there, it is quite convenient. I am looking forward to the next meet, as I truly enjoyed the two that I attended this year. I hope things work out well for you in the planning stages. Has a date been set yet? See you all soon...
