Hello everybody, I'm interested in redoing the woodgraining on my '39 MD, and am starting from stratch. Any info would be greatly appreciated...paint color, where to get the paint, how to apply, how to apply the graining effect...and anything else I should know!!!!

I was at the Loveland swap meet a couple of weeks ago. There was a vendor from Denver that restored dashes/woodgrain. He had a dash showing the steps. I cant remember if he sold the chemicals or just his services. Unfortunately I dont have his card, but he was out of the Denver area. Maybe try the yellow pages?? Ron

I purchased a woodgraining tool at Home Depot. (about $8.00) with a base of auto spray paint and a wood grain Liquitex Acrylic Color(two different browns) Available at Michaels and other art supply stores. Final coats of clear spray paint and the job was much easier than I expected. If you need other advise -call me.. Paul

Google "Grain It Technologies" and you will find lots of good information and even videos on woodgraining. I re-did my 38 using their products. They are an excellent company and have an email help line that is really useful (follow their advice--they have done a ton of research on the topic concerning original colors, patterns, etc.). The cost is not cheap, but after it's all done, it's still only a fraction of what a professional would charge. You can do a really good job on your own, you will have learned a new skill, and you will also have the equipment to do other jobs if you so choose. Even if you decide not to go with their kits, you will learn a lot from the website.
