I just purchased..well traded for a 1946 ...I believe is a 1&1/2 or 2 ton flatbed truck. It came from another state, and I am told that it has to be inspected in my state before I can register or title it
I have title with the vin # on it, but cannot locate it anywhere on.truck.
Any help would be appreciated

The Vin number on a 1946 truck will be found on a plate on the right hand SIDE of the cowl, under the hood.
Remember, you will find it on the SIDE of the cowl, not facing the engine.
It should be attached with 2 hex clutch head screws.

If you have a 1-1/2 ton or larger, the Vin should start with a number, then have 2 letters the first of which will be a "P", then another letter, followed by a string of numbers.

If the number on your title doesn't follow that configuration, the truck may have been titled by the ENGINE number.
That will be found stamped into a flat area on the engine block just behind the base of the distributor.

The data plate is pretty easy to find if it's still there. I'd wager the VIN is the engine number. Many/Most states used the engine number through 1955. At any rate Ole is right on about the locations. You may have to scrape away some crud to see it, I did on my 38. If the engine is missing or has been changed you'll have to contact your state licensing authority and get the truck re-titled.
