I need some help, I recently had my dash woodgrained. The person who did the work should pictures of a dash that I wanted for my dash to look like. We agreed on what I wanted but when I received it, it was different than the original of what I wanted. He said that is what a original 1940 should look like. My question is was there different graining options on the 1940 chevy year? Those with 1940’s can you post some pictures of your dash? I attached 3 pictures, the first picture is what i thought to be more correct, the other 2 (high gloss) is what i received. i am not concerned about the gloss, rather the wood grain look itself. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Johnny
I can't answer all of your questions, but I can attach a picture of a 1940 Chev Master Deluxe that was listed as a low mileage, unrestored original car. To my eye, this Master Deluxe does NOT look like what you got back.
Hello Johnny: Give me a couple of days and I will shoot you a picture of a beautiful original glove box door from a 1940. All 1940 models had the same wood graining except for the plain jane Master 85 dashboard.

Back 30 years ago, I knew 2 guys who were woodgraining 1940 dashes using original 1940 Chevrolet woodgraining plates. One was Benny Estes in Florida, who passed away and the business might have been sold to Grain-It Technology. The other was a guy living near St. Louis I believe. He did my 1940 complete dash that went into my coupe. I decided several years later to have him woodgrain the 4 lighter colored parts ( speedometer surround, glove box door, radio surround and the small piece just to the left of the glove box door. Attached are the 4 pieces done correctly. Notice that they are for the EARLY 1940 dashboard. Later 1940 Chevrolet dashboards were changed to include: stainless trim around the clock and speedometer and they had a 1" or so wide piece of stainless trim under both the Choke and Throttle Knobs. I show 2 different 1940 glove box doors. The top door is original woodgraining. Shows some fading at points. The bottom glove box door has been wood grained along wiht the other pieces.
If interested in these parts, email me. dtm

Thanks you all for the help. Dave, the center Maple grain and color looks good to me and appear to be the same as what you have posted, so I'm good with that. the main dash was what I had questioned. Daryl, the second set of pictures you posted looked similar if not almost the same, do you agree?
