I have my steering column parts all painted up and I've been wanting to put things back together but....recently I have been looking at web photos of 28 vehicles like I often do for ideas etc, and I have noticed lately on some of the restored cars and trucks that the throttle and timing rod finish appears to be silver (maybe zinc, or nickel)
Can someone tell me what the factory finish was on these?
I have mine painted black and it has always concerned me on how I will slide them through the holder on the dash and column without scuffing the paint all up not to mention as they get used how the paint won't get all crappy looking over time.

Adding I have seen the same finish on the latch handle on the parking brake latch handle and the activator rod. What's correct there?
