I found that number in my parts book as fitting 40-42 passenger cars.

That looks more like a bolt on disc for a brake, maybe a parking brake. Or it is a disc for a tractor brake. I have seen discs like that in tractor rear axle assemblies that have inboard brakes.

It is a “reversed” design compared to the automotive disc brakes we know so well. The friction surface is on the disc, not the pads or whatever clamps it.

Not necessarily. The part could be superseded by later parts but still work sometimes changing additional items . What vehicle are you working on?

Hello.
I’m not working on anything. My grandfather and father had repair shop, gas station and allis chalmers dealership. Iv been doing inventory of the farm equipment parts and sometimes come across other parts. Just trying to write down what they fit.
Thanks

That can be a challenge. Often, back in the day, parts got put in whatever box was handy and put on a shelf. The person who put it there knew what it was and never thought about someone in later years having to figure out what it is. Ebay is full of mislabeled parts for that very reason.

From a google search it appears that several sites list the 839240 for the same applications as you have posted above. A post on another site from 2008 by our own CHEVGENE states the part number was changed in the late 40's to 609954.
