. What size Stamping Punch is used on the Vin Plates? . 1/4" seems too large. 1/8" too small. I can not find 3/16" stamps for comparison. The first number is the factory location. (2 = Tarrytown, NY ) Next alphabetical letter or two is year and model. (LM = 1927 One Ton. ) Is there no month code on 4-cylinder Chevys? Next four numbers is serial from that factory. Could there also be five numbers in the Serial?

There isn't a month code.
Yes there can be 5 numbers in the serial number.
My '25 ID # is; 2K63173.

Lou, back to your original question, what size punch

. Hi Mike, My 27 has nine digits in the ID number. Quarter inch was too large. I ordered 3/16th from McMaster-Carr and it was shipped the next day. I lined all the digits up next to the plate for alignment reasons and there wasn't enough room so I used eighth inch and it fit including the space between model number and serial number.
