I have seen several photos posted on facebook of 51-54 Chevs that are red . I am trying to identify the color as it is NOT a 51 original color-possibly Gypsy red or Romany red and though I have viewed each online on charts I am not sure if either is the one I have seen online. I am attempting to attach a photo of what I am searching for. My parts book list a paint code 481 as Cherry for 1952 and it looks very close . The Saab red for 83 is also described as cherry red. The 53 two tone combo 517 list Target Red and India Ivory so it looks like I will be going with the Cherry red 481 and India Ivory Chevrolet number 25357337.

Note that there was NO red in 1951.
The first real red Chevrolet was a 1952 convertible color only and the same for 1953.

The 1953 red was lighter than the 1952 red.

The 1951 had a color called Burgundy Red but it actually was a maroon.

In 1951 the convertible was available in black, grey, green, blue and cream.

Yes I am aware that there was no real red in 1951. I am looking to get as close as I can to the red on the 52 pictured above. My 51 was painted similar to that by the previous owner (now deceased) and I had the color scanned and the match came up as 1983 Saab. I would really like to have a Chevrolet color. I think the Burgundy was mated with a Silver on the Belair. I had a 53 that was white with red top and it was lighter than the photo above. I'll see if I can find a chart/chip for the 52 red.

On my screen that looks more like the 1954 red which is darker but still very red.

I do have a set of Dupont paint chips from the 70's so if I can get some type of xref then that may help. I also show a Morocco red for 54 and a Sportsman red that was used for the corvette but no numbers for it (yet). Online the colors both look the same to me and very close to the cherry red. The 54 red (Romany) I have checked and it does appear to be darker so may not be what I want. I checked and the Sportsman red was rejected by my other half .

Thank you!! That looks better than the 52 cherry red which to me looked like maroon.
