Helping a buddy find the correct bias ply tires (13") for his '64 Corvair. Running into a problem finding tires with a 1" whitewall. Anyone know of a company? He has checked all the antique car tire companies. Told him to go blackwall but that didn't fly!

I just talked to my Son, Sam. He is my go-to guy for all things Corvair. He says choices are VERY limited if your friend is stuck on the 1" whitewall, he might be stuck with the high priced Coker bias ply tires. Sam is running Maxxas MA1 185-80 X 13 with a whitewall width of a little more than 5/8". Coker sells this tire in a smaller size and Sam cautioned against buying them. They are available at Walmart and other places.
He said that if your friend drives his car, the bias ply tires would be a poor choice. You might already know all of this stuff, but I thought I should toss it out there, just in case.
I think Sam is Spyderman 64 on the Vair forums.

Ed, I used this company below they customize tires however, you need them. I have them on my Impala and it’s the greatest ride for driving. When I go to the shows, I change the tires out to the original set for points.

I purchased a set of tires from Diamondback for my 69 Corvette a few years ago. I wanted to have the red lines sized and placed on the tire as originally done and I wanted the manufacturer brand, and other markings left on the tires; not the "smoothy" mostly seen. They found a tire (not in their inventory) that would allow the placement of the stripe where I wanted it. They are terrific to work with and I would certainly buy from them again. If I decide to get the "pie crust" style radials for my 51 that's where I'll go.
