Not a vintage GMC question but I need some help on my 1997 GMC Sierra. The plastic clip that hold the release rods on the tailgate handle broke. Not a big deal, have replaced them before, however the rods have come off the end locking latches. Is there is way to release them to drop the tailgate or a way to fish the rods back on the two latches?

got it open with two coat hangers and much luck. The two pull rods just kinda of go in the slot in the spring latch. They are double wired tied now, they coming out unless I decide they do!
