I am in the midst of restoring my engine side pans and one pan has a series of "dents" that are evenly spaced along the bend on the long side. (See images).

Does anyone have any idea why those are there or have you ever seen a pan with these in it before?

I have never seen those dents on a 1931 or 1932 engine side pan. I have probably seen 20 of each side in the past 50 years.

The dents look like they would match up to the stove bolts holding the oil pan to the block. Maybe someone put those dents in either as markers as to where the oil pan bolts go, or dented it with a tool while installing the oil pan?

Like Chipper, I've restored quite a few of these side pans, and I've never seen one with the dents you found.

All the Best, Chip
