Ok - car relatively new to me and I've never been handy at ... anything.
I've got a 51 6V Fleetline. All original. I'm attaching (a) an overview of the junction block, (b) suggested use from Chevy; and (c) pic of mine.
My owner's manual states that most items - radio, heater, backup lights - all use 12 AMP fuses (1 and 1/16 inch standard). These "fit" under the cup (I call it the cup) that you place over the fuse/base and screw it on. It also mentions using up to 20 AMP for foglights. I have a single spot light - thought I'd use a 20 AMP - but I think the length of these results in the cap not fully screwing on - and damaging the fuse when I try. I don't know why when you look at my actuals - there are different colors (red, brown, yellow, green). As they are all - that I can tell - the same size.
Does anyone understand this Junction Block and help me understand more about it? My spotlight is on the "BAT" side - so it's live all the time (not just when the car is running/key on). I get that much. But when I put a fuse in its "cap" - it seems to not fit and/or blow. As a test - I touched the wire from the light directly to the box - BAT side - and it threw a spark (the bulb did not light on). I wonder if this indicates a short somewhere in the bulb/fixture - and why I can't seem to get a fuse in that survives. I'm just not sure if the fuse is "Blowing" or did I crunch it tightening the top too much trying to put a longer fuse in the cap.
