Hello Fellas I Have A 1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe With a original 216 engine. I recently had Fenton headers installed . Before the install my gas pedal was very responsive … smooth easy didn’t feel hard at point of pushing down on it. After the instal I noticed it was very different. Hard to push down on felt like my car was not responsive at all . Not sure if maybe the linkage is the issue ! Maybe someone can help shed some light on this . Please and Thank you ahead of time

Welcome. I'll move this to a technical forum for you to get a wider audience.

My best guess is that you are correct. The throttle linkage pivots off the left side of the block. I expect that either the rod the goes forward from the accelerator pedal or the vertical rod from the bell crank to the carburetor are rubbing against the headers or whatever exhaust pipes had to be fabricated to fir the header.

I have never been a fan of putting Fenton’s on these cars. You have encountered the main reason. They “fit” but not really. My friend has them on a ‘54 3100. In order to fit the exhaust system the shop removed the bottom cover on the clutch housing. The second is that I never could understand why I should spend all that money just to make more noise and gain maybe 2 horsepower. Unless you are doing head work, installing a performance cam, and changing the intake system, you do not gain much.

Thank you for moving it to a different chat I appreciate it. I’m new to this forum stuff. I found this spring also dangling from the other spring that goes to the linkage I’m gonna assume ! Not sure if maybe that too is a reason! Not sure where it exactly

One other “gotcha” with this situation. There might be sufficient operating clearance when the engine is cold. When things are hot headers and exhaust systems expand and shift.

Because that second straight pipe out the back and sounding like a P38 is just so darn cool :)

I installed fenton headers on a 1948 fleetline with a 1959 235 engine. I had to make a new linkage out of metal rod. I bent a metal coat hanger to make a template.

I did the same swap in my ‘46, I used a piece of fuel line bent for clearance to the throttle pedal. I had to modify the shift arms on the column to clear the back of the rear header. I’ll leave the 216 in my ‘50 stock.
