The red cardboard was used on brass bowl carbs. I don't have documentation as to the exact time the cardboard was discontined, and brass was used.
The only one I have ever seen was not on a carburetor, but rather in a "General" bulletin from Carter to their distributors. Somewhere, I still have it, and will probably find it when looking for something else

I have seen brass tags on the 1930~1931 Chevrolet 150s, but they were service dated. Don't know if the original tags on the 150s was brass or not.
Not that it matters, but the pictured carb is a Dort. Note that the type of carb "GB0" precedes the carb number.
