I got my '30 Chevy 2 Door Coupe started for the first time since I've owned it. My question is this: with the valve cover off, how much oil should I visibly see dripping around, and where would it likely be dripping from if it's working properly?
on the rocker arm the oil should come up the side oil feed line and into the rocker arm shack. then out to the wicks in each rocker arm. you should eventually see oil trickle down each push rod down to the tappets at the bottom (behind hte push rod cover) this is how that all is lubed. there should be some drippage at the joints in the rocker arm shafts and you should see some oil dripping or slightly running out the return down the return tube that runs back to the oil pan.
here is a short video of the return tube on my 1992, you can also see the oil dripping out the rocker shaft connection points.
