I recently acquired a Carter YF 787SB carburetor with some stuff I bought on eBay. I'm not familiar with the YF carbs (I have a W-1 on my '48). From the little research I did, it looks like it was a replacement carb for 1937-52 216 engines? Anyone know the difference between these YF series carbs and the W-1 my car came with? Is it some type of universal application for all those years?? Just wondering...

Also found a brand new in box, Carter YF 787SB.
It is good solution for installing my Aerosedan?

You might want to review some the information on the Carburetor Shop web page. Jon has done a great job presenting details about the various carburetors and advantages/disadvantages.

Yes, in the 50's the YF became the service replacement for W1's. It is a much simpler design that was easier to manufacture and service.

My '37 had a YF on it when I bought it. The car had been sitting for many years so I did rebuild it. My plan was to replace it with a rebuilt W1 to be more original. The YF was so reliable that I never did that.

My observation is that the W1 seems to be a little more susceptible to blockages for fuel delivery in the many small, long passages.

The 787S was the replacement for the YF series. I used one back in the early 1950's and do not recall having any problrms with it.
If I recall corectly Jon fro the Cab. shop did not hae anyhing good to say about them,
They do not look like any previous Carter Carbs.
